Positive Support Program

The primary objective of the Light Up Autism’s positive support programs is to enhance children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our dedicated psychologists work collaboratively with schools, educators and families to develop individualised learning programs designed to support students in achieving their educational goals. The ultimate aim is to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in the mainstream educational settings.

Students will receive tailored interventions from a trained psychologist or professional, typically for one hour per day or several sessions per week. These interventions will focus on helping students achieve personalised social, emotional, and learning objectives.

The core goals of our positive support program include improving social skills, enhancing communication abilities, and fostering learning development, while simultaneously addressing and reducing problematic behaviours.

Social Skills Development:

Our social skills training aims to help students form meaningful friendships, take turns, navigate social situations, and exhibit appropriate social behaviours. These skills are essential for successful social interactions and for building lasting relationships with peers and others in various environments.

Communication Skills Enhancement:

A key component of our program focuses on strengthening communication skills, enabling students to express their needs, emotions, and thoughts effectively in a variety of contexts. By enhancing communication abilities, we aim to reduce frustration and emotional outbursts, as students learn to verbalise their feelings and needs. This proactive approach supports emotional regulation and fosters a sense of being heard and understood.

Academic and Learning Skill Development:

Our program targets the development of essential academic skills, daily living skills, and focus skills. These skills are designed to promote independence and build student confidence both in the classroom and in daily life. We believe that improved confidence within the school environment will contribute to reduced school refusal and greater academic success.

Addressing Problematic Behaviours:

Identifying and understanding problematic behaviours is a crucial aspect of our approach.Through careful analysis of behavioural triggers, we work to develop effective strategies to reduce disruptive behaviours. Once these behaviours are addressed, we focus on teaching students alternative, more appropriate behaviours, thereby promoting positive social and learning outcomes.

Positive Reinforcement:

Our positive support program utilises positive reinforcement techniques to encourage and strengthen desired behaviours. By consistently rewarding positive behaviours, we increase the likelihood of these behaviours occurring again, thereby facilitating long-term success and growth foreach student.

Our Vision:

The Light Up Autism Foundation’s positive support program is committed to making a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of students, schools, and families. Through the provision of individualised, evidence-based interventions, we aim to empower children with the tools they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, fostering a brighter future for children with Autism.
